Surface ink: developers of the unidice Gaming Console

First, realizing the unidice vision of a new unique dice gaming console is no easy task. Which is why the first partner unidice teamed up with was Surface ink, a well-established product design and development, as well as software engineering company. Known for its technological innovations, this firm has also worked with Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and many more. With references like these, the unidice team knew Surface Ink would be the perfect partner for developing the unidice technology.

Together, unidice and Surface Ink have engineered the hardware and core software to create a new, innovative dice gaming console. But the concept of a dice-shaped gaming console, which bridges the gap between the Mobile & Board Game world, needs three important features: Smartwatch technology for Tilt, Tap, Roll and Shake, and Bluetooth, coupled with high-quality components to protect the parts inside. After thorough quality assessment and testing stages, Surface Ink has engineered an intelligent die you can interact with that can roll on various surfaces like a regular die – or fall off the table.

unidice app: for creators&TTRPG players

An equally important concept is to make it easy for anyone to individualize the unidice to their liking. For this Surface Ink created an intuitive app so you quickly switch the dice icons & numbers, You can even trigger sounds on the smartphone with dice rolls. In addition, Surface Ink also facilitated the unidice console to simulate any dice number on each display individually. With this app, creators and TTRPG gamers alike will be able to turn their ideas into a dice reality.

Surface Ink develops SDK

To top it off, Surface ink is currently refining the SDK with unidice and other project partners, which will be completed in 2022. After completion, the unidice SDK will be compatible with iOS, Android, and: the Unity Engine. The dev community has much to look forward to with this new tech gaming console and the unidice SDK.

Extra Nice: Game developers join Dice Gaming Console revolution

Secondly, Extra Nice – the game developers behind SCHiM, have also joined as development partners for the new dice console. Extra Nice, experts at Hybrid & Digital Games, have developed various Mobile Dice Gaming Console applications for the unidice.

They explore directions that use dice deck and inventory mechanics, such as the collab project “Cyberrun“, a sci-fi Roguelike adventure, which will be released in early 2023. Moreover, they also adapt Hidden Role card mechanics for the dice gaming console in “House of Influence“. Last but not least, they are also developing the Zombie Dice game “Roll Out”, which can be played almost entirely without the smartphone display.

SDK & Unity Engine

Besides working on Mobile Hybrid Game development, Extra Nice also lends their game programming expertise for designing the SDK. Along with unidice and Surface Ink developers, they are currently working on the Unity Engine implementation for iOS and Android systems. This way everyone will be able to make their own unidice games.

Knizia&Celadon: Upgrade Board Games with the Dice Console

Eager to also branch out into the Tabletop&Board Game world, the unidice team has also found another collab partner: Game designer Reiner Knizia, who has already developed over 700 Board Games. His games, simple in their game design, invite strong interaction between players, such as his Card Game “High Society” and “Lost Cities”.

Caesar- Senators in court room are discussing stuff

Together with Celadon, an app development company, unidice is working on turning two projects of Reiner Knizia into Hybrid Mobile Games. One of them is “Los Banditos”, a classic Knizia dice game where the two players become bandits, who now have to play against each other for their loot.

There is also the yet-to-be-released game “Caesar” by Knizia, which will be released soon in 2022/2023. In typical Knizia fashion, this game is simple in design but strong in player interaction as they compete for politicians’ roles. Let the dice gaming console and best player strategy decide who will rise to the highest political position of power.

New collab partner: Godot Games

Last but not least, the most recent collab side project involves Godot Games, the creators of popular Kickstarter project Human Punishment – The Beginning. This Social Deduction board game depicts the conflict between robots and humans. Robots have created the virus ” Human Punishment”, which now threatens to annhiliate mankind. Since their game also includes dice rolls, unidice has decided to create a cool unidice skin to make their game even more awesome!

As you can see, unidice and their partners have a lot of projects in store for the creator&boardgame community. And the Digital Dice console revolution has barely started yet! We hope in the future there will be a lot more partner projects that implement the new dice gaming console into their board games!
